Ceiling Installation
Before mom passed away, she was hospitalized for a year, lying down facing the ceiling. I wanted to attach something nice on the ceiling for my bedridden mom—open sky with white clouds unfolding, and night sky with stars and the Milky Way. The reason why I use church floor plan and topography is because I wanted to create a bird eye’s view to combine the imagery of earth versus universe and human culture versus god’s culture. I installed plexiglass on the floor after I placed the floor plan painting underneath, so that the painting on the ceiling can be reflected on its surface, so people can feel buoyancy while they walk on the plexiglass. While most paintings are hung flat on the wall to draw the attention to the audience, my ceiling installations are hung like sails in breeze to draw in the audience like wind.

Morning Flight
During the war, since there were no toys and children to play with, my friends were the sand, rocks, seashells and seagulls. I felt free and happy when I was surrounded by the changing colors and movement of the ocean and open sky. I had a happy childhood there for three years until my family returned to Seoul. Since then, my mother would take us to the ocean every summer.
